Frequently Asked Questions

What services do SkyPaws UK offer?

SkyPaws UK provides veterinary-led pet travel solutions. With a focus on putting your pet's wellbeing first, we offer comprehensive packages that can provide anything from simple advice, to a door-to-door service.

Will my pet be safe on the aircraft?

Air travel is extremely safe for pets. All airlines we work with are committed to IPATA's Live Animal Regulations, which ensure all members of staff handling pets are trained to a high standard and have your pet's best interests in mind.

What's the difference between flying my pet in cargo, or excess baggage?

Some airlines out of the UK offer the option of excess baggage. This is the same service that would apply if you were flying with golf clubs or a surfboard, for example. The baggage handlers have no requirement for animal handling training, and so the care your pet receives is not regulated. Cargo air travel for pets is strictly regulated out of the UK, and ensures that your pet is only handled by trained animal handlers. This means they are placed in suitable waiting areas during travel - out of the heat, cold, wind, noise - have their water topped up as required, and have their health and wellbeing monitored. For this reason, we always recommend cargo travel over excess baggage.

Can SkyPaws UK transport pets internationally?

Absolutely, SkyPaws UK specialises in both domestic and international pet transportation, ensuring compliance with all regulations for a smooth travel experience.

Can I use my own travel crate?

The crate regulations out of the UK are extremely strict. Even if your pet has flown in their crate before, it may not be accepted to fly out of the UK. Our expert team are happy to discuss this with you and work with you to ensure that your pet's crate is compliant and comfortable for their journey.

What paperwork will I need to get my pet safely to my destination?

All pets will need to be in good health and have a working microchip in order to fly. All paperwork beyond that depends on the destination you are travelling to. Our expert, veterinary-led team can advise on all the required vaccinations and paperwork. As part of our comprehensive service, we can complete and procure all the required paperwork for you, to ensure total compliance on arrival at your destination.

What happens if my pet's flight gets cancelled?

There are excellent, well-tested protocols in place to ensure your pet's safety and welfare in the event of a delayed or cancelled flight.

Can my pet fly with any belongings?

Unfortunately, pets do not get a baggage allowance. They are however allowed to fly with a small blanket in their travel crate, with smells of home, to help them feel safe and secure.

How will my pet cope with air travel?

Pets cope extremely well with overseas travel. There are plenty of ways you can prepare them before you go, and lots of things you can do in your new home to help them settle in. Our experienced team can help you with this.
